Job Summary/Basic Function

The Associate Director (AD) of Donor Relations is a member of the office of donor relations within the division of college advancement, which oversees Dickinson’s fundraising and alumni and parent engagement program. The AD is a full-time professional position that reports to the executive director of donor relations. The AD works with a four-person donor relations team to develop and implement the college’s donor relations and stewardship program, which includes gift acknowledgement, donor recognition, gift impact reporting and special events designed to build relationships, retain donors and inspire continued giving at increasing levels of support.

The position is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of the recognition and engagement strategies for members of Dickinson’s four donor recognition societies: The John Dickinson Society, the Mermaid Society, the Old West Society, and the Founders’ Society. The AD is also a crucial contributor to Dickinson’s gift acknowledgement, donor communications, and special events programs. This position involves regular collaboration with students, faculty and senior administration, as well as interaction with college trustees, leadership donors, prospects and volunteers.

Essential Duties:
  • Manage the Marketing, Branding and Constituent Experience of Dickinson’s Four Donor Recognition Societies: The John Dickinson Society, Mermaid Society, Founders’ Society, and Old West Society.

    Serve as a college representative to these VIP donors. Implement a variety of communications, events and other opportunities for these constituent groups. Coordinate these efforts with donor portfolio managers to support individualized major and principal gift fundraising strategies. Track giving performance of donors within these groups with a focus on retention and opportunities for increased support. Build the brand identity and market each society among Dickinson’s broad-based constituency.

  • Manage Communications Projects for Dickinson Fund Donors. Collaborate with donor relations, advancement colleagues and members of the marketing and communications office to develop Dickinson’s annual report of gifts, the Dickinson Fund mid-year giving report, other targeted Dickinson Fund giving impact communications, gift acknowledgements, and event materials. Maintain a calendar of efficient production. Identify opportunities to re-purpose materials and leverage message impact across the college’s communications channels (print, Web, social media, email, etc.).
  • Work with Donor Relations and Communications Offices to Maintain and Refresh the On-Line Presence of Dickinson’s Donor Relations Program. Develop and coordinate annual multi-channel donor relations social media plan and refresh Web presence.
  • Plan and Execute Strategic Donor Events. Manage all related event logistics and budget for on- and off-campus programs that celebrate supporters of the college.
  • Analyze Fundraising Metrics and Giving Patterns to Develop and Evaluate Donor Engagement and Retention. Strategies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of professional working experience in fundraising, public relations, marketing or related field is required.
  • Must have experience writing and packaging fundraising or marketing materials. Knowledge of higher education fundraising and stewardship practices is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s licence is required. License be valid for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period.
